Senior Day at the Capitol is on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 and we want you to attend and tell us, “What is on your mind?” Colorado Senior Lobby (CSL), the sponsor of the event is asking seniors, boomers and professionals serving seniors to fill the Old Supreme Court Chamber at the Capitol and listen to issues and ideas on aging in Colorado. At the event, we want to hear from our attendees on what they think about aging and senior issues in Colorado.

This year’s event is shaping up to be powerful and exciting. We have commitments from Governor Hickenlooper, Lt Governor Donna Lynne and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock to attend the morning session. We are also sending many reminders to Colorado legislators to save the date and drop in and address our audience (you).

This year we have a great group of sponsors supporting and attending the event. They will be sharing senior resources at a senior expo fair taking place in the Capitol rotunda just outside of the chamber where we meet.

The event starts with a free continental breakfast at the Capitol from 8AM to 9AM. The morning session in the Old Supreme Court Chamber is from 9AM to approximately 11:30. Then we walk across the street to the Scottish Rites Masonic Center for lunch and another program that is from noon to 2:00PM.

The afternoon program will bring together the Strategic Action Planning Group on Aging (SAPGA), the new The Legislative Caucus on Aging’s (LCOA) and Colorado Senior Lobby. The LCOA Co-Chairs, Senator Beth Martinez-Humenik, Senator Todd, Representative Ginal, and Representative Beckman are interested in exploring how to improve the lives of the aging population and through the caucus are working to assess legislative opportunities related to these topics and where appropriate, support and/or carry legislation. They are all invited (schedules pending).

For those of you who have not attended before, this event is sponsored by Colorado Senior Lobby (CSL). The group is a non-partisan organization and dedicated to a fair deal for older adults. We are encouraging citizens of all ages to join Colorado Senior Lobby for 2018 and follow the work the group is doing regarding monitoring legislation. You do NOT have to be a member to attend Senior Day at the Capitol.

This year we are streaming the morning session. We have a group streaming site at the Ft. Collins Senior Center in Fort Collins and one at the Joseph H. Edwards Active Adult Center in Pueblo and one at Eaton Senior Communities in Lakewood. You can also watch the streamed event from a home computer. We have information on streaming posted on the website.

Though streaming an event and watching at home is convenient, we strongly encourage you come to the Capitol in person.

We want to see the Old Supreme Court Chamber overflowing with attendees. We want to hear what is on your mind. We are prepared for a crowd, and we have arranged for an overflow viewing space in the Capitol. Visit our Senior Day at the Capitol event web page to learn more and RSVP for the morning, the afternoon or for the entire day.
