We want you to help us welcome new Colorado Senior Lobby Board members: Kristin Geerken and Kelly Blair Roberts.
Kristin and Kelly were recommended to the Board by the nominating committee and voted into office by the Board for two year terms. They officially joined the Colorado Senior Lobby Board at the June 18, 2019 meeting.
About our new Board Members:
Kris joined CSL last year to learn about the legislative process involving healthcare and initiatives that support the aging population. Kris also joined AARP Colorado’s advocacy group in November 2018 to further develop her knowledge about the legislative process. Her work in advance care planning and overall hospice work has given Kris direct involvement with all generations and diverse groups. Kris also assisted with CSL’s annual 2019 Senior Day event, and assisted CSL at their booth at the Colorado Gerontological Society’s Salute to Seniors event in March 2019.
Kris will receive her Master of Healthcare Administration degree at MSU Denver in December 2019. Her undergraduate degree in psychology focused on aging, grief and loss. Kris has worked at two non-profit hospice organizations, where she was responsible for grant writing, volunteer support, development work with donors and advance directives. She developed a community outreach project in advance care planning, which trained volunteers to conduct conversations in their own social circles about the value of advance care planning and the distinctions of advance directives.
Kelly Blair Roberts
Kelly was an important volunteer at Colorado Senior Lobby’s 2019 Senior Day at the Capitol. For those of you who attended, Kelly organized the Capitol Affair event that was held after Senior Day this year.
Kelly has had a long career in non-profits and state and local government. She has held positions at the Rocky Mountain Adoption Exchange, Colorado Public Radio, in Governor Romer’s administration as the State Recycling Coordinator, a dedicated family caregiver to her parents, and worked as a personal care aide and personal coach.
Kelly first became involved with DRCOG’s Area Agency on Aging as a volunteer for the volunteer long-term care ombudsman program, moving on to become assistant to the volunteer ombudsman program coordinator and later as community resource specialist – including involvement in developing and launching the Network of Care website’s service directory. She continues in a part-time role at DRCOG focusing on special projects.
At the June 2019 Board meeting, 3 existing board members were re-elected to the Board for two year terms. These include:
- Bob Brocker
- Jeanette Hensley
- Harvey McWhorter
