I’m writing to share with you some exciting news that the Governor recently announced.
Americorps Contact Tracers
The Governor announced that the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will mobilize more than 800 AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members to support the State of Colorado’s COVID-19 response through contact tracing and other associated work.
Contact tracing means following up with individuals who came into contact with an infected individual to ensure they get tested and quarantine themselves if necessary. With hundreds of contact tracers working in the state, we will have a much better response to the virus and will be able to address outbreaks more quickly, which will reduce infections and save lives.
There are several ways to volunteer for this effort. It is important to us that we also are recruiting a team of volunteers that reflect the diversity of Coloradans and we would love your help in spreading the word about this opportunity to serve!
Organizations are currently recruiting for the new positions, with VISTA Summer Associates (VSA) beginning first on June 22. These positions are 8,9, or 10 weeks. VSAs earn a living allowance of $320.60 per week and recieve an education award or cash stipend at the end of their service. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to work remotely for 8 hours a day (between 8am-5pm MT), proficiency with computers, and may require a background check. Read the full position description with requirements here.
- 300 current AmeriCorps NCCC members, based out of the Southwest Region Campus in Aurora, will start immediately. More NCCC members are being recruited. These new members will work on multiple projects, which may include COVID-19 recovery.
- 100-200 additional Senior Corps volunteers will join the effort in late summer and fall. These positions will only be open to those over 55 years of age.
