2019 was a historic year for affordable housing in Colorado. With the passage of HB1245 and HB1322, the Department of Local Affairs, Division of Housing (DOH) will receive an estimated $7 million in additional funding for the next two fiscal years, and then, starting in July 2021, roughly $77 million more per year for three years to address the state’s housing needs. Both bills fund DOH’s existing state-funded Housing Development Grant (HDG) program.
Community engagement and advocacy, local leadership, and dynamic partnerships are vital elements in realizing the potential of the state’s new investment in housing. Your input is essential!
Housing Colorado, DOH and Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) are pleased to host five statewide Outreach and Engagement Forums in Grand Junction, Pueblo, Durango, Centennial, and Fort Collins. Participants will hear from DOH, CHFA, and Housing Colorado on policies, programs and recent housing-related legislation, including the new dedicated source of funding through a vendor fee modification (HB1245), incentives for builders to facilitate affordable housing development (HB1319), the State Affordable Housing Tax Credit (HB1228), and the expanded funding for affordable housing through the unclaimed property trust fund (HB1322).
Legislative updates will also include housing resources for people recovering from substance use disorders (HB1009), increased tenant protections (HB1170, HB1106), and a host of updates affecting manufactured/modular housing (HB1011, HB1309, HB1238)*.
Through facilitated discussions, participants will provide perspective and opinions on how existing programs are working, where additional funding could be most useful and effective, and the resource, research and technical assistance needs of their communities.
