“I just wanted to reach out … and share what a honor it was to be a part of such an amazing event at the Capitol … Please know that it was also a once in a lifetime experience for us at Juniper Village, to be a part of this elite day …” – Juniper Village at Aurora

Senior Day at The Capitol 2017 was a great success! Colorado Senior Lobby filled the Capitol with people of all ages celebrating “seniors.” Governor Hickenlooper and Lt Governor Donna Lynne attended and spoke in the morning. We had a terrific turn out of legislators dropping in to speak at both our morning and afternoon sessions as well. You can visit our YouTube Channel and watch the event if you missed it. Right now, we have the raw footage live but in the next few weeks we will have an edited version – CLICK HERE

Over the next few weeks more videos from Senior Day at The Capitol will be added.

The morning session started with the Pledge of Allegiance read by Sylvia Boyd, Ms. Colorado Senior, 2016. The morning session also featured the Colorado Senior Lobby Senior Community Recognition Awards. These special awards are given to members of the community making a difference in seniors’ lives. This year’s recipients were Mary Catherine Rabbit, Esq., Retired, Juanita Montoya, and Largressa Munnerlyn.

“My favorite part of the day was interviewing the seniors at the luncheon and hearing their responses to the event. For them, healthcare, housing and transportation aren’t just campaign issues or political talking points, but matters of life and death …” – Deanna H. – Senior Day at The Capitol Reporter and recent graduate Metro State University

The afternoon luncheon held at the Scottish Rites Masonic Center focused on citizen lobbying and how you can make a difference in Colorado politics. Colorado Senior Lobby Board Members Ed Shackelford, Jeanette Hensley and Seth Greiner made presentations to the group.

Colorado Senior Lobby wants to take the time to thank your 40+ event sponsors; who, without their support, this event would not be possible. Here is a link to see our great sponsors – CLICK HERE

And a special thank you to Met Media for their video production services and all of the student volunteers from MSU Denver. This was a special treat to involve young journalists.
